Added to the official statement I believe. No excuses folks. This is what you wanted, take advantage of it.

Is living in Worcester a good enough excuse Nory.

You can get the train from Shrub Hill/Foregate Street and then change at Stourbridge Junction to get to Stourbridge Town.

I will be attending so I can always drop you back off at the station if the weather is bad!

Hope you can make it.

The fare is £7 so I think it's more than worth it for what will be a really important evening for everyone concerned with the club.

My one criticism of Thursday night is that Andy shouldn't be chairing the meeting. He's the club chairman, most of the off-field questions will be aimed at him so he's going to be in an awkward position.

Chairing the meeting is probably the Wrong phrase, it will probably be Andy and Gary sat at the front table answering questions fired at them from the floor, with nobody 'chairing' it as such. As mentioned before, this is a perfect way to conduct a Q and A evening, it will feel like the whole purpose of the evening is to ask questions as opposed to a casual chat at the bar. Well done to the club for talking this route and clarifying everything.

I totally agree Nath.

I am fed up with hearing the words "cliquey" and "agendas" though,it doesn't help matters at all.

Just because 20 odd people have taken the trouble to actively seek out and meet other people who post doesn't then make them a "clique",it makes them friends and i for one enjoy knowing people i've met on here.

For 40 years, man and boy,i turned up,watched on my own and never really got chatting with anybody, this forum has helped create a whole new circle of friends for me and i'm grateful for that.

Nobody is excluded, people only have to mention they fancy meeting up and members then go out of the way to make sure it happens, people only remain "outsiders" if they wish to,i'm looking forward to the day Rasam comes out of his closet ( metaphorically speaking Laughing )

As for "agendas",i'm lost with that one apart from the Geddes fall out perhaps,i don't know of anything else on anybody else's mind, perhaps we could be enlightened as to this accusation.

The Geddes agenda is the only one I can think of. Although some fans almost seems to enjoy sticking the boot in.

Have to agree with Aleds post, it isn't as if we're points adrift at the bottom of the league and getting stuffed every week. Sure performances haven't been brilliant, but did any seriously think we'd be streaking ahead of everyone else and it seems like some think that we should be in the "proper" rounds of the FA cup every year whereas it's only 3 years ago we qualified for the "proper" rounds for the first time in our history. Too much doom and gloom far too early in the season. My concern about the club is that we don't spend money, the ground is basically the same now as it was when i first attended a match here in 1970, the main difference being the old wooden stand at the back of the goal being demolished, plenty of licks of paint and general tidying up but that's about it. I like our quirky ground but even allowing for the cricket pitch side it's showing it's age and a comment i hear is that it's the sign of lack of ambition. I will try to get to the meeting on Thursday night but that depends if i can back from working in Leicester on time.

A couple of points.... It was 5 years ago, November 09, when we first qualified for the First Round Proper of the FA Cup. Secondly, I don't think that the 'doom and gloom' that appears to be around the club at the moment is really fully related to results and performances. I think it's embedded a bit deeper than that. Over the not too distant years we've obviously performed at a much lower level than we are at now but it was different for some reason. Can't really explain, it just felt different,it felt better.

I have to agree with you Nath.
I've been following Stour a very short time especially compared to many on this forum but I have to say that I've noticed a massive change.

I got massively shot down the season before last because I started a thread asking who would secretly be pleased if we didn't get promoted.
My main arguments for not wanting promotion were based round the whole none league feel about the club, the lovely family feel and it all being a bit upside down.
To me those feelings are rapidly disappearing and I'm starting to find night games a bit of a chore, especially with the traveling and the time I get home.

Don't get me wrong, I still love stour(not to the extent of others) and there are still some top lads who I have a good laugh with but it's definitely losing the feel it had only two or three years a go.
Why does it need to feel quite so professional..... come back upside down stour.

Evening all. Things certainly have livened up here lately.

One thing is clear on this thread, although posters may not seem eye to eye at times, there are a good many people out there with ‘The Glassboys’ close to their heart and want the best for our football club.
Family life has dictated that my attendance at matches has really declined over the last 18 months. However I keep close tabs on the comings and goings at the football club and am not far from radio or twitter feed on a match day. Although I wouldn’t want to comment on on field performances (I’ve only see 3 games this season, all cup games incidentally) I would like to echo Aled’s comments that the current situation we find ourselves in doesn’t concern me too much. (Admittedly I haven’t seen that much of the current crop of players.) We are still finding our feet in ‘the North’, our first season in the Southern League after promotion was also a struggle and we came on stronger in the second half of the campaign. Going into games in the first few seasons of Step 3 life I often saw us as underdogs and I think the club may have embraced that role in many games we played. We aren’t such an unknown now. The three cup runs and consistent league finishes have put pay to that. I’ve always thought that playing as ‘favourites’ is always much more difficult and could be a factor that is catching up with us.

We are still only a good run away from catapulting ourselves into promotion contention. Again it could be argued we are only a bad run could see us dragged into the dogfight. I am reluctant to write off Gary and co. as every time things begin to look a tad bleak they seem to be able to pull a result or sequence of results out the bag. We have had to contend with many an injury to key players also this season. It could be argued that we should use our funds to bring players in to replace. Personally I’m often sceptical to such quick fixes and I’m not sure us as supporters quite know how difficult or challenging it can be to sign players at the drop of a hat.
Not being a supporter that would join the masses behind the goal or socialise after matches I am sad to hear that many faces that I am or was on ‘nodding terms’ with have hit on hard times or have drifted away from the club. Yes the club is very different from the club promoted from the alliance and the Southern Midland. But the few times I’ve attended this season it has still felt like my club. In regards to Thursday evening I think it is a refreshing gesture from any football club and I hope as many people as possible that feel they need things clearing up or have a question or nagging issue they would like clearing up would take the opportunity to do so. Also from reading the article on the website it appears that the club is also open for people to share opinions or questions via email which I doubt you would see many other clubs doing.
Football is great isn’t it... lots of opinions and thoughts to discuss!

Did you notice Tricky that your last post was your number 666! Is that a sign or what? Twisted Evil

Seriously though, like Jane mentioned the other night, it was little things that were totally amateurish about the club that we all loved so much. That's why we were attracted to the club in the first place. If we wanted commercialism and professionalism then we would have all carried on watching Albion,Forest,Villa, etc. Stourbridge FC must not forget what it is.

Some really good points made by Flex in his post. I tend to agree with his analogy about 'little old Stourbridge'. It did seem so much better and certainly played into our hands when we were the underdog. I remember our very first game back at Southern League Premier level, away at Gloucester City when they were ground sharing at Cirencester. We got stuffed 4-0 and I remember having the conversation with Mike from the Moorings and all the others in the van on the way down saying we would be chuffed if we kept it below 6! They were great days though, the atmosphere seemed so much better then. We were all as one, Committee, management, players, supporters. We all socialised together, drank together. Happy days. After every home match, the entire management team, the chairman (Steve Hyde) and the majority of the players and fans used to pile down the Moorings for a sing song, a laugh and a good drink. Cant imagine it now. (I know the Moorings is shut before any comedian mentions it!). Back to the point, things did seem a lot better as a smaller club and as the underdog. Much more close knit. As Flex says, it will always feel our club, but in my opinion not in the same way.

Thus proving the old adage I guess, bigger is not always better. Flex is right, we were little Stourbridge not so long ago. These days I'd argue we are actually a bit of a scalp. Not been the same since Fringe and 20p ay Flex?!

Ah inflatable aliens! Thems were the days. We lost every week that season it felt like and it seemed there was a new starting XI every match was the turnover of players! We must've used an incredible amount of players during that I'll fated campaign.

I remember when we lost at Rothwell in the FA Cup 7-1, we came out looking like Real Madrid but got smashed. Tannoy took the piss at the end as well.
