Worth mentioning the other side of the story though - I spoke to a club official last week who expressed frustration that people 'have a pop' on here and don't say anything to the club. He said it's rare people go to the 150 club and chat to the management team and the committee despite being well advertised.
The trouble is it gives the impression of being in such a haphazard manner that people don't come along - especially for those living outside the town. "Pop along, ask a question and leave" seems to be the case at the moment, at least that's how I see it.
If they were hold some sort of organised and more formalised "forum night" with a set time (7pm - 9pm for example) and a sort of panel format then maybe they'd get a bit more interest.
Remember about 6 years ago when I attempted to re-establish a fully functioning supporters club to deal with such manners and have a weekly forum after training on a Thursday night. This was soon shot down by club officials who just rattled on about having to change constitutions and such like. The fact is we haven't had a proper subscribed Supporters Club now since the Midland Alliance days , over 8 years ago.
For a club of Stour's stature and standing in the community now, this is a sad state of affairs. This again highlights the question of if the club really wants any real interaction with supporters? If the club officials want to prevent 'moaning' and speculation on the forum I really think that the club should make themselves more accessible to the wider fan base. All this could be done very easily IF they wanted to do so.
Over the last few years it has become much more of a 'them and us' situation. The club certainly don't help themselves in that respect. I suppose the club will argue that it's down to being more 'professionally' run but at the end of the day we are a small non-league outfit, not bloody Manchester United. What helped the club's rise over the past 8 years more than anything has been the close knit feel and the bond between officials,staff/players/fans. I just think now the club are shooting themselves in the foot by trying to be too professional in their approach to dealing with news, information, press releases, etc. It has a feel of the select few knowing everything and everyone else feeding off scraps of gossip and speculation, which is where and why all the moaning, gossiping and criticising starts in the first place! It could quite easily be so different.
This article isn't meant as a criticism of any individual/s, it's purely an opinion and observation. I know I haven't been a regular over the last 12 months but I still love this club so much and would hate to see all the progress made over the last 10 years go down the drain.
