Friendlies 2013

A few friendly matches have been officially announced:

Sat 13th July Bromsgrove Sporting (A)
Tue 16th July KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS (H)
Sat 20th July Romulus (A)
Tue 23rd July Stourport Swifts (A)
Sat 27th July Evesham United (A)
Sat 3rd August Halesowen Town (A)
Sat 10th August Solihull Moors (A)

So a chance to see Stour play at Evesham's new ground for the first time.

The league season starts on Saturday 17th - but where four extra fixtures are going to fit in when many clubs found it a hard task to complete 42 games in time last season, is anyones guess.

We already have a Pre-Season friendlies thread, can Admin merge this one into it?

Fairly innocuous list of friendlies so far - pleased to get a chance to go to Evesham's new ground, although the chances are we'll be visiting it in the WSC sooner rather than later anyway. Displeased that the Solihull game (which would be a tick for me) is on the day we come back from holiday, so I won't be able to make it. Good news that it's a testing fixture against a higher-level side.

Hopefully we can secure at least one decent home friendly to pull some cash in! Maybe Wolves will be keen to get some practice in at playing tinpot teams ahead of the new season...?

It says on their website 'On Tuesday, 16 July 2013 Steve Burr's men will now tackle a trip to Stourbridge rather than Evesham'.

Did we have to remind them that they owe us a friendly!

Stourbridge news is reporting a trip to the Dell to face Dudley Town on August 7.

Another ground I've never seen us play at and I'll miss it as I'm away on holiday! That's Solihull AND Dudley.

Well, the sensible thing would have been to start the league season on 3 August, but this is the SL we're dealing with.

Not exactly sure how the dates are settled on, but an awful lot of things that "The League" does are actually voted on by "the Clubs". Of course, "the Clubs" don't tell you that as they are quite happy for "the League" to take the blame when supporters aren't happy!

More seriously, the clubs may not want to start two weeks earlier as it would mean them having to pay two extra weeks wages without having any additional fixtures to raise income.

(Yes, I know there are two extra home fixtures this season - what I mean is that there would be the same number of fixtures in 2013/14 regardless of whether they start on 3rd or 17th August)

PS. I am most excited about playing at Stourport Swifts in pre-season!

Someone will be able to tell me how this will all prepare us for a title challenge.... Someone? Anyone?

Well to me it's a fairly bog-standard set of friendlies. Two games against higher opposition is probably about the best we can hope for given the limitations as to when we can use our own ground. I hope the club are still trying to get another home match fixed up but I'm sure it isn't easy.

As long as everybody gets to where they need to be in terms of fitness, and we bed-in the new players, that's all that really matters.

Bromsgrove game off, now playing away at Studley kick off 12pm noon.
