Richards got sent off for a Sansera challenge. Will won his appeal but Sansera got the ban...

Gibbs gets sent off for Chamberlain's handball. Gibbs wins his appeal and Chamberlain gets NO ban.

How does this work?

In the Richards/Sansara case, the sending off was correct "in Law" in that a foul tackle was made which the referee deemed had denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity. The video evidence did not prove that to be obviously wrong - in fact I'd say it proved it to be obviously right!

In the Gibbs/Oxlade-Chamberlain case, not only did Andre Marriner send off the wrong player, but it was also an obvious FACT from the video evidence that neither a goal nor a clear goal-scoring opportunity was denied as the ball was going wide, even without O-C's intervention. Therefore, it was an error "in Law" and no red card should have been shown.
